Dark Horse Restaurant in Riverhead

This menu is not real. Super slow service, appetizers did not arrive together. Quality of food is cheap and regular! I do not recommend coming!

Thank you Dee and Chef Peter. I arranged with Dee a small family party of eight. The food was amazing and beautifully presented. I heard several remarks from my guests that the food served was the best they had ever eaten. The service was exceptional, warm and friendly while still showing skilled professionalism. I will be coming back again and again as will my guests. Again, thank you for an exceptional dining experience!

Stopped in with some friends to try something different in riverhead. Started with a drink and the cheese plate. I was hopeful, my drink was delicious but than came the cheese. For the cost of that plate you would expect either a generous portion or high quality cheese. This was neither. The crackers they served with it were pretty bad. I know it's a small thing on the menu but I would take a cheese and fruit box from Starbucks over that. Didnt bother ordering anything else after that.

Huge portions, lots of gluten free options. Try the soups, grab some calamari, everything is great!

Honestly, really impressed. I was prepared for it to just be ok but wow everything was delicious, the prices were good, not too much salt(!!!!) and the Bloody Mary was a full rich flavor. Crab cakes and eggs were awesome, salad was large and everything a side salad should be. The service was great, too. Very happy I came.

Had brunch and it was fantastic. Artisan french toast with bacon made just right.

This was our first time here. What a delightful place. The food was really good. The live music was playing lightly was perfect. The service was awesome. The waiter made us felt like family. We will definitely be back. This is a place to come and experience

My wife and I have dined there twice. Both experiences were pleasant. The food is excellent, but the presentation a bit ordinary. On both our visits the service was great. We both recommend Dark Horse!

It was okay. Felt like they we trying to be a fine dining restaurant, but it was a bit run down looking. Food was adequate, nothing particularly special but over priced. Also not child friendly. No changing table in restroom. The staff seemed annoyed at the fact we had 2 small children with us despite them being empty. We really should have taken the hint right away and walked right out. Lesson learned. We won't be back.

The food and service there are excellent. A person in our party has extreme food allergies and the server and chef took great cafe to ensure they would be able to eat everything! The bonus of live music also set a wonderful mood. 10/10 would recommend.

Nice atmosphere, well trained staff, great food!

Had a very delicious burger for lunch today on my last day of jury duty, I highly recommend this place for fellow jurors and everyone else. I also heard good reviews about the pastrami sandwich which looked really good. Highly recommended!

Food is delicious, wait staff is laid back and extremely nice. Can't complain about this place.

Not too many options for a vegetarian but when I saw the "from farm to table" sign I wasn't expecting too many! ;D Had a *great* salad here. My other half LOVED his entire meal (spaghetti and clams, soup and a salad). Lovely decor and our waitress Toni was terrific! Very knowledgeable about the dishes and very friendly. Great experience.

The food here is very well prepared. The service is quick and knowledgeable. I've had lunch here once a week for over four months and each time is better or comparable to the last. Full disclosure, I only ever get the bison burger, as do my friends but that's only because once you've had the bison burger it's hard to choose anything else. They have a good draft beer selection and a full bar too. Plenty of options, worth a trip if only to try a bison burger.

Ambience of this place is spectacular. If you have celiac or choose to go gluten-free, the menu will give you more options than you've had in years. The staff is all kind, the food is gourmet, and considering the quality, I'd say the admittedly steep price point is made far beyond worth it. If I could give this place a sixth star, I would.

After a long day at the aquarium, we found this amazing place and fell in love. Called minutes ahead and were able to make room to sit 6. The staff is super friendly and very knowledgeable when it comes to gluten-free options. THEY CAN MAKE ANYTHING ON THE MENU GLUTEN FREE. My wife is 7 months pregnant and has celiac. Dark Horse allowed us to have one of the most pleasant experiences. For the first time in 7 years my wife was able to eat corn bread; it was warm and moist. The Merlot beef was super tender and delicious. The duck is crispy on the outside and pulls off the bone. The mashed potatoes were creamy and delicious. My wife and I live an hour and a half away and are already planning our next visit before she gives birth.

Everything was delicious, and best of all, gluten free. Everything! I went to question something, d the waitress told me I could eat whatever I wanted! I've never had full reign on a menu since going gluten free!

Service was a little lax but server very friendly. Food, had a bacon cheeseburger which was good, Cole slaw good but potato wedges fries had an off putting taste/ flavor.

Sonja, Eric and the entire staf are incredibly and genuinely engaging down to Earth people.Now the food. I've been there twice, once for lunch and one time for an evening cordial and dessert. I can't say enough about the tasty food created with skill and love for the culinary arts. I equate the ambiance to the 1900's meets modern day. Clean, safe and classy. We will add Dark Horse to our prestigious list of top 10 restaurants to frequent. HOOAH!

I cannot say enough about the steak dinner “Peter” the chef cooked us the other night! It was a steak that you will think about when you wake up! A definite visit will happen soon! So the steak cooked medium Rare PERFECT! The snow peas and asparagus and mashed potatoes were all perfect and delicious! Each food complimented the other. The herbs and spices on this incredibly juicy steak blended so amazingly with potatoes and vegetable! It will be something you won’t forget!! The waiting staff were nice and attentive. Ross the manager was very nice and genuinely cares about the customer! Very professional, in today’s times it nice to see there are people who care about customers. We look forward to going again soon!

This was one of the first restaurants that had gluten free options. They staff is super nice! Food is REALLY GOOD! Fun spot to meet friends or do a date night! Located on a cute corner in Riverhead! I have told friends to go and they didn’t regret it!! I have always heard nothing but great things about the restaurant. Check it out!

Lovely atmosphere and very welcoming staff. The waiter that was there on our visit was very accommodating and conversational. The food choice were phenomenal. I ended up getting the crabs Benedict. The presentation is okay the taste was great. The muffins on the other hand was a lil bit hard for my liking. Nevertheless, the home fries was certainly on point. I highly recommend this restaurant, we will definitely comeback!

Delicious! My wife has celiac disease and almost everything on the menu can be made Gluten Free. They make their own GF bread which my wife enjoyed. The server was very friendly and knowledgeable. My BBQ brisket sandwich melted in my mouth. Wife had the artisanal grilled cheese. Highly recommend.

Very nice place! Wonderful old decor, historical to the area. The food was great, and very gluten free friendly. Creative, locally sourced meats, seafood, and produce. Desserts are house made. Service was very good, attentive, not annoying. Prices were very fair, drinks in the 9 to 12$ range, entrees about 24$. Very nice experience!

I have read most of the reviews and agree with them both good and bad .I would like to suggest that they put up some sort of signage to advertise that they are totally Gluten Free. I'm sure they would be much busier more often.
